DAVID WEST Managing Director

We are an established and continually developing Extrusion Die Design and Manufacturing Business. This includes a long and recognised role within the Australian Manufacturing Community.

Exco Sydney August 1985- May 1987
Die making and design. Servicing and improvement of Exco manufactured dies for Boral Richmond Extrusion Plant.

Moiduc Engineering May 1987
Die making and design. Duncan West headed Moiduc as Technical Director. Servicing and improvement of Exco manufactured dies for Boral Richmond Extrusion Plant extending to Boral Angaston Extrusion Plant.

Gradual move to introduction of Sedco manufactured dies designed by Moiduc Engineering.Boral Richmond Extrusion Plant closed and all operations moved to Boral Angaston. Green Field development and build of Die Shop and Caustic area. Angaston Die Shop managed by Moiduc Engineering. This included:

  • All die designs and maintenance.
  • Productivity improvements and assessments.
  • Quality control appraisals.
  • Staff training.
  • Budget allocation managed for die replacement and potential R&D investment.
  • Help with management Section Drawings and profile assessment.

Marprime Ventures September 1990- June 1995
Full introduction of Sedco manufactured dies designed by Marprime Ventures. Continuously quality design improvement and development data base introduced. Although design has developed significantly since this time CQI can source these records and assess performance. Duncan West headed this business as Technical Director.

Boral Windows Die Shop still managed by Marprime Ventures as with Moiduc Engineering previously.

Para Vista Engineering June 1995- September 1997
David West became Director at this time with Duncan West still heading the Technical mentoring. We continued to develop die design and institute changes and development to the Extrusion Plant from QC to production throughput. All Die Shop Management duties continued by Para Vista Engineering.

1997
CQI Pty Ltd formed in 1997 with Duncan and David West.

2002
Nick West joined in 2002 after extensive training in System Analysis, Information Technology, Toolmaking and Computer Aided Drafting. He is now the CQI Design Manager.

Managers of Boral Extrusion Die Shop and all die designs.

  • Oversaw transition of Crane Windows in the same capacity.
  • Oversaw transition to Capral Extrusion is same capacity.
  • Introduced Austex manufactured dies with all CQI die design facilities used.
  • R&D using CQI designs 2003-2004 for Crane Aluminium.
  • RFP conducted by CQI for Crane Aluminium through the Portland Group to examine best die makers assessing all proposals.
  • The RFP progressed to CQI designs being used by Malabar in 2004 and 2005 as part of the referral process.
  • R&D 2005-2007 for Capral. All technical objectives and die designs by CQI.
  • R&D 2008-2009 for Capral. All technical objectives and die designs by CQI.
  • R&D 2009-2010 for Capral. All technical objectives and die designs by CQI.
  • R&D 2010 and submissions for 2011 developed for Capral using CQI designs.
  • 2010-present CQI left Capral to concentrate on the development of Extrusions Australia. Sedco was also redeveloped under new ownership. CQI trains Die Shop staff and designs all dies manufactured by Sedco. CQI also forms a part of EA Product development process for all Customers.
